How one boy rediscovers his music passion in one instrument, after giving up on learning the piano, the violin and the guitar.
Once upon a time in Singapore, there was a boy who started his musical journey learning the violin at four years old. However, his chin started to feel pain and he stopped the violin. Later on at six years old, he started learning the piano and guitar too. The guitar journey was fleeting as his little fingers were often in pain. So he stopped the guitar too. The piano went on for two years but he found it very challenging and he lost the motivation to practice. Hence, he also stopped the piano after two years.
After exploring three instruments unsuccessfully, the mum wanted to give the boy one more instrument a trial. She thought maybe a wind instrument might be the one. She has also heard about Flute and Music Academy (FAMA) offering a variety of wind classes. Hence, she dropped by FAMA to check out if the boy can start on any wind instrument. After listening to the Mum’s story, the staff at FAMA showed and explained to the boy and his mum various wind instruments. At the end of it, he picked the Saxophone.
The boy was INTRIGUED with the Saxophone right from the beginning. He started to ENJOY music lessons and was learning at his own pace. 7 months later, when he could play NICE phrases, the teacher encouraged him to participate in the Ensemble for FAMA’s Year-End Concert and he did. The experience was a DELIGHT to him.
Afterwards, the boy is more certain that he wants to continue the Saxophone seriously. He has many ideas about his own learning too, like forming ensemble with this friends and family members. He also said, “Learning the Saxophone has enabled me run faster as I feel that my lungs have more power!”
At last, it is such a JOY for everyone around him that Aditya Harihar has finally found HIS musical instrument!
PS: The love of music in children can be cultivated in many ways. It does not need to be limited to piano or violin lessons only. The longer a child can learn at least one instrument properly, the more benefits a child can enjoy from the music education.
